Hello, World
I wouldn’t give up my years at Alameda Community Learning Center for anything. Coming here was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Although most of the people I shared my childhood with chose to go to Lincoln Middle School, and then Alameda High School, I knew doing that wouldn’t be right for me. Here I have made amazing new friends, strengthened my character, and had the education of a lifetime.
Personal qualities of mine include: humor, kindness, empathy, organization, enthusiasm, motivation, honesty, and leadership. My work habits can range from very determined to flighty. However, ACLC has given me the structure that allows me to focus in pressured situations when necessary. This has come in handy countless times, and I know it will continue to do so.

“My philosophy: give a kid a bird, and he becomes one of those weird dudes  who walks around with a bird on his shoulder. But give him a pair of wings, and he can fly.” –Phil Dunphy

Alameda Community Learning Center is not a school where your education is thrown in your face and you’re expected to sit down, shut up, and listen. We are constantly being engaged, in one way or another, and that’s what I love about it. It has given me the wings, so to speak, that I need to succeed in my life’s future endeavors.
Because of our collaborative community, the thinking and reasoning skills that I have obtained include being able to recognize someone else’s perspective. I also learned how to break something down, and to dissect something in order to better comprehend it. By doing this in any situation, you achieve a greater understanding of what is going on, and you’re able to make the most rational decision possible.
My favorite part about going to ACLC is working in groups of my peers. When you work with others, you not only form bonds of friendship, but you are able to accomplish something that you weren’t able to before. There is strength in numbers.
Technology, obviously, is one of the many things that make our school unique. I am grateful that I have been able to learn skills from it that I can apply once I graduate and move into the real world. If nothing else, I type like a speeding bullet.
Having to explain what exactly “ACLC” is to countless questioning relatives, friends, and strangers was well worth my time here. Our community is enriched with unbreakable bonds, and a culture that is accepting and accelerating to adapt with our changing world. Nobody can understand how incredible this school is unless they’ve actually attended. No, this isn’t just a progressive school where kids call teachers by their first names and we’re all partners in learning. It’s a school where we are provided with the tools we need to get the best all-around education possible.
